Elegant sandstone stele, inscribed with the motto Amor Fati , in the Grand Tour style. The Grand Tour is that period in the second half of the 18th century when young well-to-do men from the highest strata of European Society travelled through Europe to finish their education and elevate their centres of interest. Greek and Latin Humanities were their favourite subjects. Amor Fati means Love your Destiny .A lovely philosophical reminder for a Curios Cabinet which doesn’t celebrate just beauty!
